While $2000 entrance fees a day are taken from Rock Garden, the sculptures and structures of the Rock Garden are being just left to rot. The world’s largest and most spectacular visionary environment, Nek Chand’s incredible legacy, is under very serious threat as the Chandigarh Administration takes all the funding away and cuts out Nek Chand’s son and family.

Nek Chand Memorial Celebrations 2017

A three-day programme to mark the second anniversary of Nek Chand’s death is to be held at the Rock Garden, Chandigarh from June 10th to 12th. Events include the official inauguration of the Doll Museum by Chandigarh U.T. Administrator, Shri.V.P. Singh Badnore on Monday 12th, as well as painting and craft exhibitions, and contests for school students.

Two hundred works by Nek Chand are currently being shown at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, USA. The exhibition, The World in a Garden: Nek Chand, is part of the Arts Center’s 50th anniversary program, a yearlong exploration of art environments called The Road Less Traveled, and the Nek Chand works will be on view until June 4th.

Serbian Home for Nek Chand Sculptures

Nek Chand sculptures and parts of a Rock Garden-themed installation are to be permanently displayed at the Museum of Naïve and Marginal Art (MNMA) in Jagodina, Serbia. The sculptures and installation were previously on show at the 15th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice, May 28th to November 27th 2016. About twenty Nek Chand works in concrete of various construction dates and sections of a fibre-glass display specially created for the Venice Architecture Biennale by the late Nek Chand’s son, Anuj Saini, have been transferred directly to their new home.

Volunteer Program Suspended

With great regret the Nek Chand Foundation announces the suspension of the international volunteer program at the Rock Garden, Chandigarh. The reasons are varied and complex but can be summarized by seven words: Nek Chand is no longer with us.

Volunteer groups have been visiting the Rock Garden from overseas for around fifteen years and provided valuable support for Nek Chand himself, as well as carrying out important work and raising the profile of the Rock Garden in India and abroad.
