The Indian Express Reports on Neglected Ludhianna Rock Garden
December 13, 2013
The Indian Express has reported on the neglected Rock Garden at Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana in a story echoing the Nek Chand Foundation website article of 2 March 2012.
The University's small Rock Garden was created over twenty years ago under the direction of Nek Chand and with a gift from him of around 30 statues to his friend and former University Chancellor, Dr M S Randhawa.
Currently the site is neglected with all statues missing, walls in disrepair and an elegantly-shaped pond filled with green stagnant water. The sad state of affairs was discovered by Nek Chand Foundation volunteers from the UK and Chandigarh on a visit to the Punjab industrial city in spring 2012 and reported on the NCF website.
This is the second time in two weeks that the English-language daily The Indian Express has carried a Rock Garden-related news item. It is hoped the newspaper now turns its attention to serious issues of lack of funding and support at the main Rock Garden in Chandigarh.
